Cases in Online Interview Research

Cases in Online Interview Research is now available in print from Sage Publications and your favorite booksellers.
Coming soon: Kindle ebook and CourseSmart e-text versions.

Cases in Online Interview Research is a companion to Online Interviews in Real Time. Cases in Online Interview Research includes 10 cases of research conducted using online interviews, and a series of analyses. The cases represent diverse disciplines, methodologies and approaches. The researchers collected data through interviews conducted with text chat in social media spaces, through videoconferencing and in online meeting spaces, and in virtual worlds.

Each case is followed by two commentaries. One commentary is from another contributing author. As editor, I contributed  a second commentary. The  after-case commentaries and final meta-synthesis in the closing chapter are based on the “E-Interview Research Framework.” The framework includes eight inter-related categories of key questions that can help a reader design or analyze an online interview study.

As with the first book, a study site will soon offer a rich array of materials for educators including sample syllabi and assignment ideas. The new site will also include materials and checklists based on the E-Interview Research Framework for IRB, fellowship or other reviewers who must assess research designs, proposals or completed studies conducted with data collected with online interviews.
