The Qualitative E-Research MethodSpace Group is devoted to qualitative online research. This group offers an online space for exchange of ideas, resources, experiences….and dilemmas…related to data collection online. The focus here will be on data collection methods that involve interaction with research participants, such as interviews and observations. We can look at 1-1 as well as group interviews or focus groups. We can consider issues related to observation and participant observation online. While researchers use the Internet for locating documents or reviewing archives, those approaches require a different skill set than is required to develop rapport and communicate directly with research participants.

I created a parallel Qualitative E-Research group in Second Life. We will hold periodic events, discussions or tours of interest to online researchers.
