V2L: eCollaboration

Why is eCollaboration important?

When collaborative partners work across geographic and other divides, the need for clear goals and agreed-upon parameters is important to ensure that all involved understandhow to plan, organize and manage the collaboration accordingly.

Synergistic Collaboration

Two models can help. The Collaborative Integration Paradigm and the Taxonomy of Online Collaboration. The Collaborative Integrative Paradigm helps explain and strategically organize large-scale and interdisciplinarycollaborations, while the Taxonomy helps explain tactical work and communications design.

The Collaborative Integration ParadigmSM  was introduced in the  Handbook of Research on Electronic Collaboration and Organizational Synergy and discussed further in the e-book, The Environmental Issues, Policy and Management Collaboration Toolbox.  It offers a conceptual framework for exploring fundamental questions about the interdisciplinary collaborative process:

  • Who collaborates?
  • Why do they collaborate?
  • To what degree do they collaborate?
  • How do they interact to accomplish collective outcomes?
  • What leadership skills are needed to succeed with eCollaboration?
